Laundering Tips from Guest Expert, Amy Doody of Amy's Laundry

Armpit stains on your favorite t-shirt not only annoying to see, but also can be a real challenge to remove. Your sweat mixes with the aluminum in your deodorant and deposits a yellow stain while trapping unpleasant odors in the fibers. If you don’t treat the stain properly, the discoloration and odor will remain even after you do your laundry!

Read on to find out what laundress extraordinaire, Amy Doody, recommends:

How to Tackle Armpit Stains:

Keep a pretreat product like Oxiclean MaxForce by your hamper. Spray the area before you place it in your dirty clothes basket, and as long as laundry day is less than a week away, you’re golden.  Note: You can’t use all pre-treaters this far in advance, so be sure to read the directions first.

When laundry day rolls around, use a high-quality detergent (such as Tide or Percil) and wash garments in the warmest water the fabric calls for. And as tempting as it is to bleach your cares away, don’t add bleach unless the label says it’s okay, otherwise you might be doing more harm than good. Worried that those sweat stains or odors are still lingering? Avoid the dryer and you can try treating the stains again.
